Welcome! In front of me I have the Motorola RAZR 40 and today I'll show you a couple tweaks and tricks you can do on this device
0:12
So, let's get straight into it. Now that I think about it, I should have put that wallpaper also on a lock screen
0:21
But anyway, we're gonna start off by opening up settings and navigating to the display
0:29
and here we have a couple different things. So, I'm gonna start off with the dark theme
0:33
This is just basically a system-wide dark mode and apart from being able to turn it on and off
0:38
in here you can also tap on a text and have it set as a schedule
0:42
so the device will turn on the dark mode at a specific time, either sunset to sunrise
0:48
or on a custom time that you can choose. So, therefore, the device will be switching automatically between these two
0:57
giving you, arguably, the best option for you at specific times. Now, moving on to the next option
1:06
which is also under the display, it's colors. Now, most of the devices, I would argue
1:12
have just insanely overdone colors and this one is basically no different
1:19
So, I personally like to set it to natural. The reason every device is set to saturated
1:24
or vivid or whatever they're calling it is because when you have this phone in store
1:29
alongside of 20 other devices, obviously, the phone that will stand out more
1:34
is the one that has a little bit more oomph to it when you're looking at the display
1:39
So, saturated or vivid will kind of give that, but for typical usage, I would probably suggest
1:47
using something more reasonable, like the natural or whatever they're calling it
1:53
on different devices as well. So, yeah, it will tone down the colors a little bit
1:57
and make them a little bit more washed out looking, but when compared to some other photos
2:03
which we only have one preview right here, natural will usually be the more accurate color
2:08
rather than vivid, which makes some colors look just like they're straight out of a nuclear factory, glowing
2:18
So, yeah, I personally just like natural. Now, anyway, moving on to the next one
2:25
It's going to be the peak display, and that's somewhere in here
2:29
There we go. So, it's basically an always-on display, though not really
2:35
Personally, I think the best-case scenario here is to turn that off
2:39
There is really no need for it, because this option would be fine
2:44
if this device didn't fold in half. So, peak display gives you no benefit
2:51
when the device is folded, and when you unfold it, it automatically lights up
2:55
And you probably won't be keeping the phone like this, locked, because that just kind of..
3:02
that's not the point of the foldable device. So, yeah. So, anyway, moving on
3:09
I'm going to go back. We also have a couple things that I'm going to mention here
3:13
So, we have the three-finger screenshot, if you want to have that, you can enable it here
3:17
You also have the refresh rate right here. Now, we do have high set by default
3:21
and we have standard. Unfortunately, this portion right here, usually there are three options
3:28
and the one that is selected by default usually would be the best one
3:33
Here, that's not really the thing. Oh, no, never mind. Smart optimize up to... okay, never mind
3:39
I take that back. So, here we have 144 Hz and 60
3:44
but the 144 can actually optimize it from 1 Hz all the way up to 144
3:50
So, that is actually really good. Typically, devices give you the standard
3:55
high, and adaptive, or whatever you want to call it, which this one just comes with the adaptive and standard
4:01
So, that is actually a really nice thing to have enabled right here
4:05
which gives you the benefit of actually running your display at 144 Hz when you're doing something on it
4:10
and when you're not, it will drop down to 1 Hz. And we can actually test that out
4:15
which is actually true, because I haven't. So, we're going to enable the developer options
4:20
So, let's just find build number. There we go. And from here, I'm going to navigate to
4:28
system, developer options, and I'm going to find the refresh rate. Show refresh rate. There we go
4:37
Yoink. 10. Okay, so it doesn't go all the way down to 1
4:43
So, that's a little bit of a lie. But it goes down to 10, which is already significantly better
4:49
than 90% of the devices, if not more. So, most of the devices drop it down to 60
4:55
So, they go from 120 to 60. This goes even lower to 1
5:00
So, that is really nice. Though, when you start doing something, it doesn't go to 144, it only goes to 90
5:05
which, uh-huh, that's another lie. But okay. Yeah, it looks like anywhere I am
5:16
it's permanently 90. So, yeah. So, that's, like I said, a little bit of a mislead
5:24
a little bit of a lie. It doesn't drop down to 1, it doesn't go up to 144
5:31
What gives? So, anyway, let's continue on. I completely disregard this big oof from Motorola
5:40
I understand adaptive, but when I'm scrolling up and down, I would like to have 144
5:44
especially that it could be displayed right now. So, yeah. Okay. I went over
5:50
Let's continue. So, I'm going to now navigate to gestures. Go to gesture section
5:57
And here we have a sidebar. So, this is disabled by default, it looks like
6:02
What it is, it's basically additional, kind of like a sidebar, which you can pull out
6:06
and it gives you access to several different things. Cool, cool, cool
6:12
There we go. So, we have a bunch of applications. We have settings. We can move this around
6:18
And settings, it shows us what applications we can add in here
6:22
And going to it, we can, I believe, though I'm not necessarily sure
6:29
Oh, okay. So, it works like that. So, you just open it up, and it automatically opens it up in this kind of pop-up view
6:36
So, this will allow you to use two different apps at the same time, as you can see
6:42
And this, for instance, YouTube will work no problem right here. The only time it will stop playing videos
6:48
if you open one up, is when you do this. There's a minimize button
6:52
It minimizes into an uphead, and it would stop playing whatever you turned on in the background
6:59
Because YouTube now is not on a foreground application. When it goes into background, it automatically pauses YouTube
7:07
Unless you have YouTube Premium, which is kind of a freaking scam
7:12
So, I recommend, if you want to play videos in the background, to just look for YouTube Revenced
7:19
You can thank me later. So, yeah. YouTube Revenced for playing music or any videos in the background
7:26
and being able to actually lock the device and put it in your pocket
7:30
and still hear what's in YouTube. So, anyway. Now, another thing that I wanted to show in gestures
7:36
was the system navigation right here. That's another thing. We have three-button navigation, but I personally prefer gestures
7:45
So, it removes the buttons from the bottom and gives you this little bar
7:49
Go into settings, and hopefully I can hide it. There we go
7:55
So, we can. And it also removes this, if you want to get rid of it
7:59
So, if you never used gestures, the way it works is you swipe up to go home
8:04
swipe up and hold to go to recent, and swipe from either side. Hello
8:10
Oh, there we go. It worked from one side. So, it works from this side
8:14
As you can see, there's an arrow, but it doesn't want to give me one from here
8:18
In any case, from here it works. So, I guess it needs to have something open to allow you to do it from this side
8:25
But, yeah. It's a pretty nice way to navigate through the device. I personally really like it
8:30
Now, moving on to the last thing. It's going to be swipe to split
8:34
It's also disabled by default. So, what you can do is enable this. And, come on
8:38
There we go. Swipe to split, change system settings. Now, that is stupid
8:49
So, I need to use three-button navigation to be able to use a split-screen gesture. What
8:58
So, now I can just do this, hopefully. There we go. And, as you can see, it will just kind of split-screen
9:05
This is just a demo. So, let's actually do this with a real application
9:11
So, I'm going to hold this device and try not to press a button
9:17
Come on. Oh, for goodness sake. I need to do it higher
9:29
It doesn't want to work now. Awesome. Let me just make sure that it is enabled
9:41
What is happening? I'm pressing the back button. Motorola, come on. Come on
9:56
Are you kidding me? There we go. So, let's try to get back to this
10:02
Swipe to split, and, yeah, it's off. So, that would explain why I was not able to actually activate it
10:09
So, now, there we go. Now, it worked. As you can see, YouTube is right here
10:15
Not YouTube, a browser. And it's giving me an option to open up some kind of other application that is right now running in the background
10:21
I believe if I press home. No, never mind. It doesn't work when I press home
10:26
So, you do need to have both of the applications running, at least in the background between these applications
10:32
for you to be able to split-screen them. So, as you can see, like so
10:39
And it still allows you to use a third application here. So, this is the pop-up one that I have activated some time ago from the sidebar
10:49
So, there we go. Now, anyway, with this being said, hopefully you found this video somehow informative
10:54
