Welcome! In front of me is a Samsung Galaxy A54
0:03
And today I'll show you a couple tweaks and the tricks you can do on this phone
0:12
So jumping straight into it, I'm gonna open up our settings and in here we can navigate to
0:20
display. And we'll have a bunch of options in here that I want to show. So number one we have
0:25
the light and the dark mode. You can swap between them. Not a big deal. But under that we have the
0:29
dark mode settings and this allows you to set it as a schedule. So the phone will automatically
0:35
switch between these two modes based on either sunset to sunrise or custom time
0:41
Now moving on, next thing we have is the motion smoothness, which is right here. Now it is set
0:49
to adaptive, which will be okay for most of the people. Though because adaptive right here only
0:55
drops to 60, it's not giving you such a great advantage of some other LTPO displays types
1:02
which will drop the refresh rate a little bit lower, giving you better battery life. So
1:06
if you tend to prioritize battery life and only that, I would probably recommend selecting to be
1:12
standard. This will give you a better battery life, but unfortunately you won't have this nice
1:16
smooth motion as you do when scrolling up and down, as you can kind of see right here as a
1:21
comparison. These are a little bit exaggerated, but they do give you a decent visual indication
1:28
on how this will affect your device. Now going back to the next option, we have the screen mode
1:35
below. Now I personally think that Samsung overdoes the colors a little bit too much. They're
1:42
in my opinion, a little bit too saturated. So I, on at least a Samsung device, always use
1:49
natural mode, because I just find it to look a little bit more appealing to the eye. Now
1:55
or actually less appealing, but more realistic would be probably the correct way of defining
2:00
this. Now if we go to vivid and I just swipe to the side, you can see we have a couple
2:05
preview images. Now I know the camera won't be picking this up as much, but
2:11
the colors here on the orange and the grapefruits are for the, well, the fruits are just a little
2:19
bit out of whack here. Like they're so severely overdone that they look like they are glowing
2:27
So in certain other cases this might look better, like the Aurora Borealis, but I do personally
2:36
prefer natural, which tones down all the colors and makes this photo look less
2:45
well, more realistic, I would say. Less eye straining and just better in general
2:52
It might not affect all the content in this way. They said certain things might look worse
2:58
like this. Objectively, it's less colorful, less poppy, so obviously it's not as appealing, but
3:05
in certain other cases like this, I prefer to have the drawback of having less colors somewhere
3:10
and then have content that looks more realistic rather than content that just looks like it's
3:15
always glowing. So that's basically my preference. Obviously, if you prefer vivid, that's completely
3:20
fine. Stick with that. Now moving on to the next one, it's going to be the edge panel. I think
3:28
it's somewhere in here as well. At least it should be. Ah, there we go. Edge panels. Now, this is
3:36
turned on by default. It's this little guy right here that I can pull out. It's accessible on any
3:42
Samsung device and it will just give you a couple applications that you use frequently, or most
3:48
recent ones, and then add ones that you can add right here. So you can also tap right here to
3:52
access all the apps that you have installed and edit them, so you can add new applications if you
3:59
want to, but also you have access to swipe on this, which I can't. So I'm gonna click right here and
4:08
trying to look for settings for this. Oh, there it was. So it appears only when you click on the edit icon and then disappears. I'm not sure why, but
4:26
just tap on this. So it'll take you to the settings and in here, you have access to additional
4:32
functions of this. So as an example, we can select weather, which comes pre-installed with
4:38
the device, along with several add ones. Keep in mind, you can access Galaxy Store if you're
4:42
logged in and also download more if you choose to. Though keep in mind, the ones that might
4:48
actually seem useful will most likely be paid. They don't cost much because they're like about a
4:54
99 cents or $1.99. But still, if you already, for instance, bought something like a Galaxy Fold
4:59
and then you have to pay $1.99 for some trash like this, it really gets your gears going
5:07
So keep that in mind. But for just generally, these that come already installed and you can
5:14
use them, it's fine. So once you add one, you can then swipe to the side. And as you can see
5:20
it then adds a new tile. You can just flip between them. So there we go. Now, obviously
5:27
if you don't want this, I can access it right here and turn it off. So that is under the display and
5:34
the edge panel. And you can disable it if you don't want to. You can also make it panel. So we
5:40
can edit it here. Handle. So here we have transparency, so you can make it less visible
5:46
Now, I know it's not as visible right now because I have the little screen protector that kind of
5:51
cuts into it, making it, obstructing the view of it a little bit. But in reality, I think it should
5:56
be a little bit more visible than it is right now. Just to kind of showcase this right here
6:01
You can see it right here. I have it already edited to make it smaller, but you can obviously
6:05
see this little notch right here. So you can obviously change it. So let's make it dark as
6:12
an example. Transparency. So more transparency. There we go. You can shrink it. So it's a little
6:20
bit less, well, taking less space. Width. This is how much it's popping out of the edge
6:26
And yeah, there we go. Good enough. Now, anyway, let's move over to the next option, which will be the navigation bar right below edge
6:35
panel. And here we have the button navigation along with gesture navigation. I personally prefer
6:41
gesture navigation, so that's what I will be selecting right now. And also, we have things like
6:45
the more options below. There is one neat feature, though it could be getting annoying. I guess it's
6:52
getting annoying. I guess it's something that you need to test out. It's the gesture hint. As you
6:58
can see, at the bottom, we have this bar and it does give you like this white line that kind of
7:02
cuts into it. So instead of having a transparent and just having it show the actual bar and only
7:08
that it adds a bezel to it, which is absolutely, I think, stupid. So you can turn that off. But
7:15
the way it turns it off, unfortunately, is by shifting the content off the screen
7:20
Now, this causes some problems, like picking up the gestures, it won't always pick up correctly. I think this is a bigger problem. From my experience
7:29
if you're using a third party launcher, then it becomes an absolute nightmare. But I think it might
7:35
be working okay ish with the Samsung one. It's something that you would need to test out to see
7:40
if it works out well for you. And under more options, you can also try to edit a little bit
7:46
further with the gesture sensitivity. So you can make it a little bit more sensitive to all the
7:51
gestures. Keep in mind, it increases all the gestures. So even the side ones with the hints
7:59
being hidden, the sides aren't necessarily affected by this. So now you probably have a
8:05
different problem. As an example, if you open up things like Google Maps, or not Google Maps
8:10
I'm personally using, let me just quickly showcase this. Because I do have on my phone
8:16
and this cranked up a little bit higher than it is by default. And it poses a problem like this
8:21
one. Give me a sec once it loads the app. I'm just gonna select random location. And let's just
8:35
whatever. Good enough. So this is one of the Polish applications that I use for just
8:42
transportation around the city. And once you select one of these, right, it gives you this
8:47
sidebar right here. As you can see, I just went back, even though I didn't want to. So
8:54
we can move it here. But once I move it here, I actually cannot grab it anymore. So like I said
9:00
it causes some problems. So keep that in mind when editing the sensitivity of this. Unfortunately
9:07
there is no way to separate this for some odd reason, it would be nice if I could increase
9:12
the bottom sensitivity and keep the side ones as it is. But we don't have such an option here
9:18
Now anyway, we can move over to the next option, which will be the just gonna have this go back to settings, and navigate to wallpaper and style. And here we
9:31
have the color palette. All right over here. Now, the option that I personally like is the
9:40
color palette that is based on a wallpaper. So once you enable it, you will have the wallpaper
9:45
colors. So whatever wallpaper you actually have set like this one, it will pull the colors off
9:51
of it and give you the same colors all around now, just like enable or apply
10:02
So they changed the text right here to be a little bit different. And also swap between
10:08
the color palettes that we have access to. So let's just go this one. As you can see
10:14
the buttons are brown. And yeah, I can just different wallpapers, this will pull the
10:20
colors from it or make the primary colors, meaning ones that dominate the wallpaper
10:26
and then give you some nice aesthetic along with your wallpaper that matches it
10:33
And moving on to the last option that I wanted to show you, it's going to be the motion and
10:39
gestures. Just go back into the settings, scroll all the way down to advanced features
10:44
There we go. And here we have somewhere we should have the real motion and gestures
10:53
And we have a bunch of different things that we can enable. Now, these are all the default
10:58
settings. So that's how it should work. Look for you. So all the same things that I have enabled
11:03
you probably have enabled as well. But a couple of things that are disabled. Obviously
11:07
if you don't want some of the things that are enabled, you can turn them off. Just to kind of go over a couple of them, we have lift to wake. So when you pick up the phone
11:14
it will wake up the screen. Double tap to turn on screen. So just double press the screen and
11:21
it lights it up. That's a pretty neat option that I personally like. And double tap to turn
11:26
off the screen and not so much. Keep screen on while viewing. This basically uses a front facing
11:31
camera to see if you are looking at the device. And if you are, it will keep the screen lit up
11:37
Now, moving on, we have a couple additional things. Obviously, you can go over them. And then the last thing that I'm going to show is the side key, which is right here. Now
11:47
this will allow you to get back your power button when you hold it. Now, this is for people that
11:50
don't necessarily use Bixby. So if you don't tend to use this, then that's for you. If you do
11:56
obviously, this would kind of turn off the accessibility for Bixby. And you'd have to
12:01
literally find the application and then launch it through that. So probably not the best option
12:06
for people that tend to use this. But for everybody else who just doesn't like it
12:10
doesn't use it, you can select right here, power off menu, when you press and hold your power
12:14
button. And now we have our normal boot menu here. So there we go. Now, if you found this
12:21
