Welcome, in front of me I have the Huawei P50 Pocket and today I'll show you how, well
0:15
maybe not how, but what kind of launcher I use on a typical daily basis on my phone and
0:22
basically how I set it up. Now this will be a little bit cut down just because this is the Huawei and I do use the
0:34
same thing on my Huawei but mine is a little bit dated so it still has Play Services and
0:40
does also Google, which for me includes things like obviously the launcher that I'll be using
0:47
which I paid for a pro version of it giving me additional access to features and widgets
0:56
I think it's like LS widgets or whatever it was called, where you basically can widget
1:02
up to hell your device with adding some nice looking widgets along with downloading different
1:08
ones specifically for the application giving you much more access to different kind of
1:13
like looks to your phone. So I'll kind of skip this, I'll just give a general kind of setup of this that I use
1:20
personally and just to kind of give you a look how that looks like if you like it
1:25
That's how I have it set up right now. So basically if you swipe to the right I normally get a Google feed but you can just quickly
1:41
fix that or not. Apparently it just does nothing. It bugs out on my phone sometimes since like an update but anyway if you swipe to the left
1:51
you get all your apps. Then let's see swipe up, I don't want to show because that's where I have my contacts and
2:00
then obviously I have swipe down for notifications. This device if you probably are aware or I think Huawei in general doesn't support swipe
2:08
down for notifications. This is part of the widget which I really like
2:12
So anyway let's get started. So right here I already did, I didn't download it from the store at least on this I just
2:24
simply transferred it from my phone to this one. So we'll see how well that worked
2:28
I do like I mentioned have a pro version of this which gives me some additional features
2:34
which aren't in the free version. So there is a free version and it still works and I should probably mention that the free
2:40
one does have ads when you go into your app tray. Oops not what I wanted
2:47
So anyway let's find my smart launcher right here which is right over here
2:51
There we go. Once you launch it it just kind of looks like this. Now I did kind of go through it a little bit
2:57
So normally you would get a setup which I mean just go through it it's not complicated
3:03
I also did transfer icon pack which I use Ycons for the home screen and for app tray
3:13
I just use whatever. So probably using the default apps from Huawei
3:19
So let's number one actually change the default launcher. Once you actually change it yourself it doesn't give you that pop up again I think
3:28
Let's see. Maybe I can do it from here. No there it is. So when you hold this home screen it gives you the entire page right here of settings
3:36
Again set right here smart launcher as default. And now when I go home it just takes me to the launcher itself
3:43
So there we go. Now as you can see this is just the default look minus the wallpaper
3:49
The wallpaper is changed. And let's see. It looks like it has a second page
3:54
It has top stories. It has apps above. And then below we have the actual search
4:03
Personally I don't like it because I just don't. It's not kind of how I like it
4:08
So let's start off by switching it up. So to switch up the position or remove some of them if you don't want them we can navigate
4:15
right here to either one of them and set it up. Each one of these categories or we can first start off by actually setting up the pages itself
4:24
So I'm going to just kind of delete all of them. So right now we only have the home screen and nothing else
4:32
So I'm going to start off right here and I'm going to make apps
4:36
I believe that is what I want. Yep. Okay. So we go
4:42
We got apps. Then on here. Hello. We. No, no, never mind
4:49
I was about to be very surprised that I can have Google, Google as a news feed, but maybe
4:59
Nope. That's a negative. So I just, I'm just going to keep it empty
5:03
I can't have Google. I don't want the top stories. It just kind of never gives me anything that I'm interested in
5:10
Then below I want search and above. Let's see
5:19
How do I have it set on my phone? I don't have anything. Okay
5:24
So basically that would be it. So we have our apps right here
5:30
We have our search right here. This allows you to quickly search for applications as well, which is quite nice
5:36
And additionally, obviously when you're using the device, it shows you a couple apps that you use frequently
5:40
Additionally, it also shows you contacts. So that is a really handy thing to have, in my opinion
5:46
It's a quick way to access basically a lot of things that are used on a daily basis
5:51
Now we want also that dropdown. So I'm going to hold it again
5:56
And from here we're going to go down somewhere. Where is it
6:00
Oh, it's going to be right here. Gestures and hotkeys. Now, I'll mention this is accessible only the paid version
6:09
So do keep that in mind. I don't think you can access the shortcuts on a free version
6:15
So from here, if you bought it, you can follow this up. If you didn't, you can kind of skip this
6:22
So we have enable swipe gestures. We want to do a single finger and we want to do swipe at Lown
6:30
And then we're going to go LS shortcuts. And from here we can choose a bunch of other ones, a bunch of shortcuts
6:35
But honestly, what I'm interested in is the, where is it, show notification panel
6:45
There we go. So now you do swipe and you get notifications
6:50
I'm going to also quickly check for additional option if there is a way
6:56
So preferences show toggle panel. There we go. This might interest some other people a little bit more than the notifications
7:08
Personally, I think I would stick with the toggle panel. So that's what I'm going to have
7:15
So we got this set up. Now let's go into the icons on the home screen. Now since the update to smart launcher six, because this is a sixth version they changed
7:27
So the applications are equally spaced out. They basically work the same way as any other phone and a grid
7:36
I don't like this considering the previous versions of smart launcher didn't have that
7:41
They did allow you to have something else. They had like an icon layout, which allowed you to have icons spaced out evenly in each row
7:52
So meaning if I had four, they would be all spaced out evenly between each other and only
7:56
this row. And if in a top row, I had six icons as an example, instead of four, again, they would
8:02
be spaced out evenly between only each other. So they would overlap, for instance, over the grid lines as you normally couldn't be
8:09
able to do this. Now with this kind of update, you lose this and it's only as a widget
8:18
And let's see. So to add it, we'll go into widgets, we're going to then go to icon group
8:25
And I believe it was this one. No, I think it was this one
8:35
So as you can see, that's this, this thing. And from here, I can quickly check if this is the actual one, I just bunch of random apps
8:44
Yep, that is one. So as you can see, we have five icons at the bottom, and then two at the top, and they
8:51
are literally smack in the middle of the two below that. So that is kind of what I'm looking for to have them evenly spaced out
8:59
I do have, as you will see right here, only, what is it, five, nine apps
9:08
Now the reason why I only have nine is because there's another part of this launcher, which
9:11
I adore. It allows you to have double apps. So as an example, let's see if I want to, what I want to open
9:20
So let's go with my music player. So there's my music player in a corner, right
9:24
I mean, it's obviously distinguishable with the headphones, you open it. And there we go
9:28
It's my retro music, which I picked. That's what I use on a daily basis. But if I double press it, it opens up Spotify instead
9:37
So there we go. And you can assign this to any kind of application
9:41
For instance, I have browser and YouTube on a double press, so that's nice
9:46
So anyway, let's go back to this. So I'm going to get rid of this just because it's not, nothing like super nice
9:58
And to remove these icons, I do need to put a little bit of effort, unfortunately
10:16
There we go. Now I have an almost fully clean look right here. The only thing left is this smart search, which I also don't like
10:24
So wham, it's gone. Now we can start off by adding a widget
10:30
That is for people that want to have the same kind of thing that I do with them spaced out
10:34
evenly in each row. If you don't really care for this, which is totally understandable, you can just stick
10:39
with the default one. But you do have options, which I will show right now
10:44
If I actually can access it. There we go. So you have options on the home screen when you tap on it to go into icon appearances
10:51
So we can change how the icons actually look like. And in here we have a grid. So you can change how many columns and rows you have on here
10:59
So again, you can customize this however you want. As you can see, you can have it really freaking crammed in here
11:07
If you want, you can obviously also change the size of them, although it looks like they
11:11
already are. That's nice and small. Anyway, so as you can see, you can go crazy with this
11:19
Now I'll be using this like I mentioned. So I'm going to add the typical things
11:23
Browser, camera, what else? Contacts I'll skip because it's along with the phone
11:35
Messages. Phone. And you know what
11:47
I'm just going to keep it at this. I probably want to also add music
11:50
Let's see if I can. Add icons. Can I search? Oh, that would be nice
11:59
There we go. Music. Gallery. As you can see already, we have a couple more
12:09
Now it looks like the actual icon layout and spacing is affecting the little widget right here
12:16
I'm going to go back and change it because this is ludicrously small. There we go
12:28
That looks a little bit better. Now for this, we can just move it down
12:35
And as you can see, you have it right at the bottom. Right now it looks like they're located in the grid as you normally have it, but that
12:42
is because at the top there is only one and it's smack in the middle
12:46
So from here, what I'm going to do is, let's see, I'm going to add double apps right here
12:56
So let's see. On the browser, like I said, I'm going to do this for one app because everybody's preference
13:05
will be different. So this is strictly how I like to use it
13:09
If you do like it, obviously follow it up, but you can set it up however you like
13:14
So as you can see right here, we have browser. So what I can do is hold this, then I can go into settings and do double tap
13:21
And from here, I will scroll all the way down to YouTube Vents
13:25
Now if you're wondering what the heck is YouTube Vents, it's just a YouTube and it can be installed
13:29
on this device without any problem. And you don't need any Google services for it to run
13:34
So that actually solves a lot of problems for, I would expect probably a lot of people
13:38
that only like to use YouTube, but don't really care that much for Google services
13:44
So anyway, as you can see, now I tap once and I have my browser
13:50
I double tap it and it opens up YouTube. Fantastic. Just the way I like it
13:56
Now it should actually load. I checked it before and it did run or work
14:00
So come on. Maybe I'm having problems with internet
14:13
That's weird. Okay, yeah, I don't have internet. Something happened
14:23
So yeah, there we go. That's primarily what I do. Obviously, like I mentioned before, you can use custom widgets right here, you can remove
14:31
this one if you don't like it, it's just a time you can substitute it for something else
14:35
which might be a little bit more pleasing to you. What I'll probably recommend doing is using the custom like widget application that does
14:44
cost money. I don't exactly remember how it was called. Let me quickly check
14:48
Hopefully, I can find it quickly. But it looks like I can't because now that I need it, I can't remember it and neither
14:59
can I find it. Okay, there we go, found it. So it's right here
15:07
And that's what I have or what I use for this sometimes
15:11
And it gives you a great deal of customization. So the KWGT custom widget maker
15:17
Now this is just it's not really a widget pack. It's a application that allows you to basically make widgets and it has a insane amount of
15:29
customization to it. So obviously with this, this is needed. And then you can download any kind of KWGT widgets itself
15:37
So KWGT, let's just search for that. And you will see there is a bunch of them, should be a bunch of them, minimal KWGT
15:47
You can see there is one. So find ones that appeal to you in terms of looks, what are you going for
15:55
And from there, once you apply them, you have just a general application where you can just
16:00
add them to your home screen. And then you can set it up
16:04
So as an example, when you tap on a specific portion of it, it will open up some kind of application
16:09
As an example, if you have time right here, the default one, I believe, nevermind, it doesn't open up time
16:14
But normally, you can set it up to open up time, which is how I have it, as you can see
16:21
So right here, if I tap on it, it opens up time. Now I do use a fairly basic looking one
16:26
So that's just my preference. I like to have it clean and simple. And obviously, you can choose whichever one
16:31
And from there, you can set up the additional actions for the press of the widget
16:37
There's a lot of customizations. When it comes down to actually dealing with the KWGT, I do recommend watching some other
16:44
video, how to set it up, because it is overwhelming at the first glance
16:49
I'm pretty sure you can figure out how to add a widget. But then when it comes to customization, changing the sizes of text and icons and just any kind
16:58
of order that is added to that will be a little bit more advanced
17:02
Additionally, adding these actions to tapping on that widget will be somewhere a little
17:09
bit more buried in there. So I do recommend checking out some other video on setting up strictly the KWGT widget itself
17:19
But anyway, this would kind of conclude the customization and custom launcher that I guess
17:27
I recommend. It works really well on Huawei's. That's something that I want to stress
17:33
Something that doesn't really happen with this launcher, that's what I use on all the devices
17:39
As an example, Samsung does have a problem with this from time to time
17:43
And it works flawlessly on Huawei. So I highly recommend checking it out if you like how it looks like and how it performs
17:53
Personally, what I do, why I use it, something that I want to justify why this is my go-to
17:58
launcher, is strictly because of this. As you can see, this is what you'd consider an opt tray, though it's not really an opt tray
18:07
It's more like an opt shelf categorized into each application has in its own category
18:12
It's like a library basically. So as an example, if you tap on settings, you have all the things that it considers
18:17
as settings. Then we have some kind of utilities, media, games, services, and contacts
18:26
So as you can see, everything is neatly categorized. They get sorted automatically, though the sorting isn't always the best
18:32
Keep that in mind. But for that, what you can do is just kind of grab it, drag it over to a different category
18:38
And as you can see, there it is. It's now switched. So like I said, it gives you a nice, easy way to access your application, have them
18:46
easily find foundable in each category, which is sorted automatically. And additionally, if you have apps that are used quite often, you'll just simply find
18:55
them by swiping up. Though, like I mentioned, there is nothing showing up here for some reason at the moment
19:02
So yeah. Anyway, this will conclude the video. And if you found it helpful, if you like this kind of launcher, you can support me by just
19:11
hitting that like button and subscribing. Or you can support the creator of the launcher by just buying his product
19:17
So anyway, thanks for watching and see you in the next video
