Welcome, in front of me I have a Huawei Mate 40 Pro and today I will go over
0:12
unboxing and I want an overview of this phone. So without further ado let's pop
0:17
it open and see there I would call it a flagship but it's actually not a
0:22
flagship anymore I guess considering there is a plus version so just pop it
0:28
open there we go so right off the bat you can see the phone right there great so let's take it
0:43
out set it right over here obviously nothing in here so I'm just gonna put
0:52
that to the side and here is the cardboard whatever one cares this is
1:01
looking a little bit different than what I'm used to so you have a little
1:07
marking on here for the SIM eject tool I guess they show you where the tray
1:12
is even though no one has ever needed that I guess and just a pamphlet not
1:18
really much in here that's basically everything that we get so again to the
1:22
side and then we got something that I just consider kind of funny every time I
1:28
see it so obviously Huawei isn't coming with Google anymore so they're trying to
1:36
you know show you that hey it's okay we have different ways of giving you the
1:40
applications that you're looking for and that is one of the... come on get out
1:45
I have to basically destroy everything but oh yeah so obviously we have the app
1:51
gallery the phone clone and not really sure what that is actually let's just
1:57
guess there oh I know what it is it's just a alternative to Google search as
2:01
you always have on your home screen the Google search they don't have Google so
2:07
they needed to have their own phone clone is actually a good way of getting
2:11
apps that you won't find on app gallery to this device so basically you have
2:16
your phone you download the phone clone app and then you simply clone the app to
2:21
your new device that doesn't actually have Google and that will allow you to
2:24
transfer apps that aren't actually on the app gallery really neat trick I
2:29
would say so yeah just throw that aside and in here we get the charger so this
2:37
is a massive and I really mean massive 66 watt charger so I just set up the
2:46
side right here and then we got a type-c cable I'm really sure what that is oh
2:53
they're included type-c earbuds okay so and now they're not wireless obviously
2:59
but still the inclusion of them is quite nice considering considering majority of
3:06
their phones didn't actually come with it so yeah there we go that's basically all we get in that box out of the actual important stuff something that I
3:14
actually found funny is the fact that they started to change the color
3:20
usually I believe it was purple before now it's orange I guess that just
3:25
signifies the cables charging capacity I'm not sure if you ever tried it but if
3:31
you used for instance their charger which for me just this is example I have
3:36
the old mate which is really beat up as you can see so on the mate 20 I believe
3:42
their charger was rated at 40 watts and if you didn't use their cable it
3:46
wouldn't charge the phone at the max wattage so I guess I'll be probably
3:51
getting like half or so something like that I'm not exactly sure haven't actually checked it but I know it wasn't charging at its full speed because when
3:58
you plug it in with their well with their cable and charger and it charges
4:02
full speed you can basically see the percentage or like go up on front of
4:07
your eyes so it's like for instance 50% point and it just the point just keeps
4:11
going up without their charger it will not do that so let's actually open it up
4:18
now it's kind of funny because usually this is the front of the phone at a display here it's kind of they flipped it all around and it looks like their
4:25
primary focus is not the display it's more the cameras which seems to be
4:30
interesting idea of just shifting it a bit to a different a different way but
4:37
now we go there is a phone it looks really premium obviously the only thing
4:44
that is I guess higher than this is the the mate 40 pro plus which this isn't
4:50
now as you can already see at the back we have the quadruple camera setup and
4:57
this fairly big circle right here and we'll have the periscope lens we also
5:03
have the ultra wide the wide one which is normal and also there is what's the
5:15
other one should be only three so there's the 50 megapixel why 12 megapixel
5:22
periscope which is this one the ultra wide and I'm not exactly sure what the
5:29
last one actually is if that is even a camera looks really tiny honestly trying
5:34
to look at it as you can see this is maybe that's just a sensor of sorts
5:38
because it looks just it looks just miniscule compares like their sensors
5:46
right here right here the ultra wide and the white one so I believe that might be
5:51
just a sensor but anyway as you can see let me just kind of move this to the
5:55
side so as you can see after I power it on you will be able to see the display
6:03
there we go so this comes with a 6.7 inch OLED display at resolution of 1344 by
6:16
27 or 2772 that's gonna how I should probably say it and nice thing it has a
6:26
90 Hertz refresh rate or really nice that they included that something that I
6:30
would kind of probably will be comparing it to is the iPhone that is I would say
6:37
the closest thing that I can consider this to being because Huawei with their
6:43
with their chipsets their Kirin I believe they're faster than basically every Snapdragon so it wouldn't be a fair comparison now comparing it to
6:53
iPhone I don't think it's a fair comparison either but in terms of how
6:57
they're doing everything and how apart from the fact that it's running on
7:02
Android everything here works is really really similar to iPhone even for to like
7:09
their the way the phone looks the packaging how premium it is and all
7:14
that stuff it kind of resembles an inspiration from Apple so that's kind of
7:19
why I'm gonna be comparing it to it and able and continue just finish up on the
7:24
setup now unfortunately I do have to go through the gestures right here there
7:33
we go and so with their Kirin 9000 this is come on there we go with their Kirin
7:45
9000 this is probably gonna be the one of the fastest Android unfortunately
7:49
it's I don't think it's gonna be faster than iPhone iPhone just has a bit of
7:53
that advantage with their with with their a chips on their phones so just
7:59
putting that out there but I can see right here the benefit with this one is
8:05
it has 90 Hertz refresh rate something that iPhones didn't actually have the
8:09
newest one the 12 series so that is already a little bit of a advantage here
8:14
now I will have to say you will not be able to see the 90 Hertz refresh rate on
8:18
the camera I'm recording only at 60 so anything past that is just kind of lost
8:24
but it does bring a little bit of a better experience to the device at least
8:32
that's in my opinion any kind of phone that has a 90 or 120 preferably 120 it's
8:40
just a win in my book this one stops only at 90 not sure why maybe the pro
8:46
plus version has 120 I haven't actually checked it so I am not sure about it but
8:51
it'll be kind of a not very good way of doing it but yeah so like I said this is
8:58
a 6.7 inch display 90 Hertz OLED certified HDR 10 and when it comes down
9:04
to screen to body ratio it comes out ninety four point one percent so this is
9:09
a fairly well fairly bezel minimal bezel phone basically bezel less I would say
9:17
almost if you mitigate like the six percent that it has of bezels it you
9:22
would have just a screen itself and as you can see probably one of the bigger
9:27
part of that percentage is taken by the cameras right over here so you have two
9:33
cameras or at least one I would assume let's see kind of looks like two so so
9:44
we have two cameras right here and yeah as you can see they're fairly spaced out
9:50
I'm not really sure why they went with it it just creates this kind of like
9:54
super lengthy just not not but I guess a hole which they could have just put it
10:03
really close together and minimize this size this is the second time I've seen
10:08
it Huawei doing this so I guess they might have some reason for it I just for
10:13
my consumer standpoint this just kind of looks like it's overly wide for no
10:18
reason and just takes up a little bit too much screen space right here so
10:25
moving on further the display with its resolution has a 456 pixels per inch so
10:33
it is a fairly dense display I would expect this player comes basically at
10:40
1440p resolution so yeah now moving to the backside of the phone where we have
10:48
the camera setup as you can see right over here so we have a 15 megapixel
10:53
wide and have 12 megapixel periscope telephoto lens then 20 megapixel ultra
11:00
wide and well obviously as you can see they're branded Leica right here from
11:05
the lenses and with that you can shoot out 4k 30 or 60 frames which is just
11:12
something that we already expected I would say considering majority of their
11:16
newer P series and mate series this could do what do it so nothing really
11:22
mind-blowing here obviously you can shoot at 1080p 30 60 and also slow
11:28
motions at 120 240 and 480 and if you drop it even lower to 720p you can shoot
11:35
at 930 along with going to ridiculous 3880 or three hundred three thousand
11:45
eight hundred and forty frames per second so this is a little bit over the
11:52
top this is just ridiculous I would say but if you want you can do it and then
11:59
the front can shoot out 4k 30 60 again and 1080p 30 60 and also slow motion of
12:06
240 now let me just flip it over I get our little plant right here and capture
12:13
a couple photos now obviously whatever I'm gonna be capturing here will not be
12:18
even unlocked there we go nothing that will put the I guess camera to any kind
12:25
of like strain so all the photos here will be just a quick photos just so you
12:31
can kind of see how well they look but it's still gonna be well fairly crap
12:36
considering I'm not a great photographer and also this is just a fairly well lit
12:44
environment and just a single little photo here that I can prop that I can
12:50
capture but let's just get a photo so right now we have full tutorials here
12:58
but okay so just capture it now it looks like the AI is disabled by default so
13:07
let me enable it so it captures or changes it up until capture the best
13:12
photo I would say so now we can get a look at it so this is the AI photo
13:26
hopefully it will be fairly clear on the camera but as you can see the detail is
13:34
there it did capture most of the focus right over here that's why it's kind of
13:40
blurry on the bottom and a little bit here but I have to say it did a fairly
13:45
decent job obviously the colors are fairly correct the plant is a little bit greener on here than it is to me right here but other
13:58
than that it looks well like an outstanding photo as you would expect
14:02
from this device if we go to this one which didn't use AI you can see that it
14:07
is clearly clearly darker overall and just so you see it is max brightness so
14:16
the photo here came out a bit darker without the AI now it's still a really
14:21
good photo just putting that out there now apart from apart from the normal
14:26
photos as you as I captured we have also the ultra wide
14:32
there it is there's the ultra wide so I guess I can capture way more with it
14:38
and look what it did here so the ultra wide it looks also really good but
14:53
actually you're gonna expect it hopefully like I said it looks good on
14:58
the camera but this looks really good here let's see what else we got so we
15:06
went to the normal one the one time zoom we also have a five times zoom which need to take it out of there now we have five times zoom but we can also
15:19
go to 10 20 30 50 times zoom but at this point I cannot capture anything as you
15:25
can see I can barely figure out what I'm looking at the only thing that is
15:31
helping me is this tiny little image right over here to distinguish what I'm
15:36
actually looking at but in terms of detail I am way too close to even
15:40
capture it if I probably move it somewhere else if you're wondering what
15:46
you're looking at is basically the camera just there's a tripod apparently
15:52
visible but you can only see it on here so yeah I cannot even test the
15:58
periscope lens here because that's what it is using to capture these photos now
16:03
outside of that we can also go to more where we have four more options time
16:09
lapses light paintings monochromes even high resolution which will use the full
16:15
resolution of a sensor dual view which see that's nice interesting so I
16:24
probably believe this will look better in this perspective so it looks like a
16:28
uses the the periscope lens and also the normal one to capture two different
16:34
views which honestly I really like can I zoom in here as well I want to close it
16:42
not what I wanted to do let's go back so I can zoom it all the way to times 15 while still keeping this image as it is
16:54
now that is really neat and I kind of like this I believe this isn't really
17:00
new I think it already was and some of the Huawei's before but obviously you
17:05
can see that the cameras here are well way above average and they capture
17:11
outstanding photos now let's also take out the selfie capture myself here beauty
17:22
mode okay so they started adding option for a toggle to have a beauty on or off
17:28
words obviously I'm gonna go with off okay now also once you capture it it gives you the option to either mirror or not
17:47
mirror it I'm gonna go with mirror it just looks better to me and right here
17:53
and we have the photo now this actually came out better than I even expected
17:58
with this kind of lighting that I have here so I'm not sure if it's visible on
18:03
the camera like I said but overly even the background is still as you can see
18:08
visible clear enough the colors of the skin tone are I would say basically on
18:16
point this is probably the the closest thing that I feel like looks like an
18:21
actual skin tone that I have encountered for a while so yeah not the selfie
18:26
camera here is better than I even expected but nope never mind there is no
18:33
beauty effect here it's basically fully off and without any kind of sharpening
18:41
it looks outstanding on the subject on this photo might not look outstanding
18:46
but the photo itself does so yeah this is amazing for selfies if you're into
18:52
that now moving out of the camera itself and on to other things like I already
18:59
mentioned before the downside of this phone is the fact that it's lacking a
19:03
Play Store so if you one of those people that rely on it you're not gonna get it
19:07
here but from what I've seen there is good there's still apps being added to
19:15
the app gallery but already in my opinion there's a fairly decent amount
19:19
of apps in here which at this point around I before I was critical of it I
19:24
didn't really like it but at this point around the app gallery contains enough
19:28
apps for me to actually not care now there is gonna be downsides like I
19:33
believe you won't be able to use Google Pay because it's a Google app but I'm
19:39
not sure there might be some kind of alternatives I would really hope that
19:43
there are so you can actually for instance pay with your phone but
19:48
finishing it off with the specifications of this device like what it comes with
19:53
there is one variant of RAM and two of storage so it comes with a Kirin 9000
20:02
which is a 5g version 8 gigabytes of RAM and then the storages you have 256 and
20:09
512 and this is a UFS 3.0 so you're gonna be getting really fast read and
20:17
write speeds it's not gonna be as fast as iPhone iPhone uses NVMe so their
20:24
storage is just on a whole new level but in terms of like comparing it to
20:28
majority of the other iPhones this is basically blowing majority of them out
20:33
of the water I think the only thing that uses like well the UFS 3.1 or like the Samsung and majority not even all but a fairly
20:45
decent amount of actual flagship devices which this is so that's why it's there
20:52
and also like I said before it has a 66 watt wireless charging which is amazing
21:01
but something that caught me off guard is apparently it has a 50 watt wireless
21:06
charging which I think it is the highest one unless I think there might be one
21:13
that it comes at 66 but that was from like a different brand so so I'm not
21:20
really gonna include it but just so you can see this isn't gonna put the phone
21:27
into full chargings mode this is like their old wireless charger but you can
21:31
obviously see that it does charge it wirelessly that's kind of all I can
21:35
really show off I don't really have a 50 watt wireless charger so now moving out
21:41
of this it also has a reverse wireless charging now it is only
21:49
5 watts so nothing really super fast but this is only gonna be used to either I
21:54
don't boost up someone's phone they need a phone to make a phone call and they
21:58
really need their phone to be charged a tiny bit or to simply charge up your
22:04
headphones if you have ones that have a wireless charging case so you just kind
22:07
of flip it over slap them on here and charge them up something that I don't
22:12
have any more to even showcase but yeah now when it comes on to price tag it does
22:18
come on a little bit of a pricey side it comes up about $1,400 give or take
22:28
like 50 I would say and also depending when you're buying it right now it's
22:33
Black Friday so there is a chance you can get it cheaper than that but I'm not
22:37
really sure haven't really checked it and also the device does come with a
22:44
couple different colors so we have silver black white green and yellow now
22:48
the one that I've been showing here is the black version obviously and it is a
22:53
fingerprint magnet as you can see this this is kind of hilarious how how much
23:00
fingerprints you can see on it it does also have a curved screen obviously as
23:08
you've probably seen it so it is a fairly aggressive curve as you can see
23:11
right here there is some road on here so you can clearly see the side of of
23:18
whatever is on the display and also it comes with a fingerprint sensor under
23:25
the display which is really fast now you can actually go to a setup of it so
23:32
let's go to where is it biometrics and password face fingerprint there we go
23:37
and we can set it up quickly and let's add a fingerprint let me just quickly
23:49
like swipe it so it's fairly clean at a fingerprint okay cool so we can see how
23:57
quickly it unlocks the device come on come on now apart from me just kind of
24:10
showing you off a couple different features right here and like the fingerprint and how quickly it works there is not much more I can say here
24:16
now obviously the this phone probably at least won't be really accessible in US
24:23
if you're from there you might have a little bit of a problem getting it
24:28
because of the Huawei ban but still if you can it's a really good device it
24:37
works like a flagship now I don't really like the fact that they decided to go
24:41
with even higher model with the plus one it kind of taints in my opinion the mate
24:46
series before we had the p-series p-pro for instance or p20 30 40 Pro and that
24:54
was the max and same with mates like for instance my mate right here the old one
25:01
that was the at that time the flagship right now if you go with a mate 40 Pro
25:07
it is not the highest you can get the highest will be the mate 40 Pro Plus and
25:14
I don't really like them adding more and trying to rack up the price to even
25:19
higher one it just seems like a I don't know it just feels wrong in my opinion
25:27
so just lock it as you can see the fingerprint works really quickly it is
25:38
reliable if you can actually press it there we go so it does work really well
25:43
and yeah apart from that there's not much more I can say it has a only single
25:50
SIM slot no SD card expansion unless they are using the nano memory or
25:55
whatever it was called and apart from that the phone works outstandingly the
26:00
photos are just like I said top-notch and I really like it and if you're
26:06
getting this device you're probably gonna be getting it for the photos themselves that's one of the reasons might give you the phone flipped on the
26:13
on the screen with showcasing the cameras instead of like every other one
26:18
comes with just phone upside instead of the downside so yeah but yeah it is a
26:25
really good phone I wouldn't say it's worth $1,400 but that is for you to
26:30
decide if whatever it comes with it is worth for you to pay that much well
26:36
that being said this will conclude the video and if you found it helpful don't
