Welcome from the Samsung Galaxy M-51
0:10
I'll go over unboxing along with an overview of the device. So getting started, a box typical of Samsung
0:18
Above we have some paperwork and the semi-ject tool as well per usual
0:24
So let's just quickly pop it up and see if there's anything extra but for usual, nothing
0:29
extra. So some warranty card, quick start guide and that's about it. So I just
0:36
dropped all that to the side. Then we got the device itself. Obviously, set up to
0:43
the side for now. And charging cable. It looks like Samsung with the M51 moved
0:51
to fully to the USBC to USBC so that means that the charger will also have a USBC
0:59
port and that it is. So now unfortunately the charger still keeps that puny a 25 watt
1:05
charging speed and honestly I would really like to see a better charger but I'll
1:14
also touch on that a little bit further later on and give you basically the numbers
1:19
and stuff like that and apart from the charger and the cable we have something that
1:24
I haven't seen and budget versions of Samsung for a couple iterations
1:28
which is the headphones. Let's see. It looks like the device actually has a headphone jack
1:34
so that's a nice thumbs up for that. Now the headphones themselves aren't AKG
1:39
as we've seen in plenty of the other Samsung devices. For instance like the S-series or the Node series
1:46
they're just a typical Samsung buds and look quite mediocre. They might sound okay
1:54
but I wouldn't expect anything super significant out of them I probably won't be blowing your e-drums away
2:01
So as you can see that's basically all we get in the box here. So I drop that to this side and then move to the phone itself
2:07
Let's pop it out. There we go. I'm going to set it up here
2:18
Now as you can see the device already has been set up. So this is kind of post setup
2:27
That is also so I could check out some features of the device and actually have something to talk about
2:32
So obviously you can see probably the biggest part of the device is the display right here
2:39
And that's a 6.7 and Super Amelette 1080p by 2400 display. So this thing is fairly nice, actually really nice
2:48
And for a mid-range spec device, a little bit of a higher price tag
2:53
I really like the display here. It's fairly minimal. of the front of the device itself looks really modern and on par basically with
3:02
flagship devices. The only grip that I have right here is a little bit like a
3:09
circle around the camera, the black one, so it's not necessarily as minimal as on
3:15
folds or the node series where the lens was basically the only thing visible in the
3:22
display. So it's like I'm saying basically a little bit, drop here, hole than some other flagship devices have
3:34
And apart from that, when it comes onto the screen-to-body ratio, it's an 86.7%, so really
3:41
respectable, especially for a mid-range device, with a 393 pixels per inch
3:47
And that is just kind of what we are used to now. Nowadays, basically every device that's come out either a flagship or just a mid-range device
3:56
come with an 80p resolution and they all kind of come out to have a around 400 pixels per inch
4:03
That's just kind of like the standard right now and manufacturers decided to step away from
4:08
trying to have the highest resolutions possible. So this is basically the standard at the moment
4:15
what I would call it. And then the last thing about the display, the disappointing part, it has
4:23
Gorilla Glass 3. So a little bit behind, I assume that it's just so
4:29
they could save on costs, even though the device is already a little bit
4:33
more pricey for a mid-range device than I would honestly like. So that's a little bit of a shame
4:39
and that also means that your device front glass won't be as
4:43
durable as it is on other devices nowadays because most of them are using Gorilla Glass 5
4:50
even the mid-range devices. So that's basically the display. So now we can move on to the camera section
4:59
And as you can see hopefully this cut out here, that's a 32 megapixel white sensor, so I fairly
5:06
have the sensor right here. Now unfortunately, even though it has a high pixel count, it's not going to be anything amazing
5:14
in terms of video. It only captures a 1080p 30 frames, which is a bit of a shame considering, oh, it's a
5:21
smaller sensors did capture at 4K and primarily meaning Samsung. So I think like 20 something megapixel on what was it thing like the S-20s
5:34
I could capture at 4K60. I might be wrong. I don't exactly remember
5:39
Don't have the paperwork right here to back that up. But I remember it was something along those lines
5:44
So the front sensors there were barely nice, honestly. But I just open it up and actually see how the front facing camera works
5:56
So I'm going to switch it around and where I am obviously
6:03
So let's see if that's going to change anything. It looks like it's going to make it worse so let's keep it on
6:15
I going to move it a little bit to the side so I get rid of this here
6:27
That's a video not really what I wanted. photos there we go
6:41
it looks like it's dealing with HDR actually let's make it a little bit harder
6:45
for the device. As you can see there's the light right above here and that is going to make
6:51
well capturing a photo a little bit harder for any device. But it looks like I did a really good job
7:10
So let's see the gallery for now and see how it came out. So this is like I said before
7:15
a 32 megapixel sensor. And honestly, it's doing okay. It's not going to be winning any awards, honestly
7:23
It kind of, although this is a fairly end. So, honestly, it does do the job well
7:31
You can see basically threads, my hair. It doesn't do any kind of like a bouquet effect, as you can see
7:37
So the background is basically as sharp as it could be for a background object
7:43
The light has a little bit of an orangeish, taint to it, yellowish on the photo
7:50
It's not really accurate, but then considering the fact that this is a light that is blasting really bright honestly
7:59
in this completely dark environment, the photo has enough detail and quality to it
8:05
So this is a really nice photo considering the conditions that it had to be captured in
8:10
So yeah, now let's also see the... video so this is the video and now not very long but it already loses on
8:22
quality as you can see it's a little bit less detailed it has also a little bit
8:29
of grain but like I said the the quality here or the environment that it has to
8:35
shoot in it's not necessarily the most feasible environment for any kind of
8:39
phone so my all means I did a okay job Okay, so moving on to the back of the device we have quadruple camera setup
8:51
So we have a main sensor is a 64-wide sensor, then we have a 12-machyxel ultra-white, 5-mepixel
8:57
macro, and 5-mepixel depth. Now, I'm also going to mention I'm really happy that they didn't go for the 2-mepixel
9:05
counts just to rack up the count of the cameras here, which majority of the mid-range
9:11
devices are nowadays doing. So just to stay kind of relevant, they decide to add something like a depth and macro camera
9:18
but they're like two megapixels and they're utter garbage. Now here we have more than twice as high megapixel count, so this is a 5 megapixel
9:26
It's still not necessarily the greatest. I will show you a comparison of, for instance, the table that I captured photos of in, for instance, macro
9:36
And you can decide it for yourself. But it's still way better than the quotation mark effect cameras that manufacture
9:43
add in. They're not really fake but for all turns of purposes they are literally
9:49
useless they are considering the main sensors can capture for instance better
9:53
macro shots than the macro lens itself. So let's flip it over and see how it deals
10:04
with photos. So flip it over and get the plenty and focus here. So this is the normal one. I'm assuming that's going to be
10:26
the 64 megapixel. I'm going to quickly check it if I actually can. So that's
10:35
a video so it's not really interesting me. It looks like I don't really have options here
10:46
Let's go to more. Panorama Pro focus. Let's go to Pro and see if we have actual options here
10:59
Nope, not what I'm interested in. I don't really see an option to change the sensor right here
11:22
So I'll assume that it's capturing with the 64 megapixel, hopefully. So this is going to be the 64, hopefully
11:34
Crossing my fingers. Then this is going to be the ultra wide
11:38
you can see the difference in how much it captures. Now these circumstances right here for the photos are not necessarily the most optimal for the camera
11:51
So the photos might not come as good for instance as they would go or come out while taking them outside
11:58
or in actually more open environments. This is just a recording studio
12:03
So a fairly crap environment for camera. for camera. So this is the ultra wide and let's also just kind of capture a
12:15
video and see how it does in terms of stabilization and things like this
12:19
So this is again on the normal sensor. There's also the ultra white if you want to
12:24
although the ultra white kind of looks wonky and the zoom of it is significant as
12:34
you can see Just as a comparison this is basically taking almost the entire screen and I quite far We switch to a normal one and it does take significantly less space So I assume there going to be some image stabilization
12:48
That's why it's taking, zooming in so close. So right now it's recording
12:59
I'm just kind of trying to go around and see how much jittering there is. And normal circumstances without any kind of significant image stabilization
13:06
and the video would come out kind of shaky because of my hands
13:18
So it came out okay and there is detail, obviously. M. Sabilization is nothing really significant but it is here
13:30
So that's a thumbs up. And it does come out respectable, honestly. I wouldn't mind shooting without camera
13:36
And also it looks like it's 30 frames And I don't think there is any option to change that
13:43
Actually I know that there isn't any option to change it So you're stuck at either capturing footage in a 4K or
13:52
Or 1080p But all of it is at 30 frames So you're not getting anything higher
13:59
So once we already We got the overview of the cameras we can move into the specs of the device itself
14:09
So it's running on Snapdragon 730G with a 128 built-in storage and you have two variants, either the 6-kigabyte or 8-kabyte RAM
14:22
So choose whichever one you want. Honestly, 6 gigabytes I believe should be plenty enough
14:28
for a majority of the people. So if you really want it, you can go for the higher spec
14:34
but I don't think it's necessary. especially that you don't get any more actual usable storage for yourself
14:41
Now it does have the option to be expanded via SD cards, so again that's a super thumbs up for that
14:47
I appreciate that they didn't decide to skimp out on that one. And also you have a ridiculously hefty 7,000 million power battery
14:58
This is basically a power bank for some people. and this battery should
15:05
last you a fairly decent time probably two days at least I haven't really gotten it
15:11
well used it for long enough to actually figure out how long it will last
15:15
in a normal use but with this kind of battery I assume it's going to be a
15:19
substantial amount of time now like I said before the sad part is it comes with a 25 watt charger
15:26
they call it a fast charging and honestly even though it's 25s and I would really want to see a better one just so the phone can charge faster
15:35
They could, for instance, divide that battery into two and charge it at twice that speed
15:40
So, for instance, 50 watts. And this would have been already a just huge substantial step up to every other Samsung device
15:49
But I assume they're kind of scared of doing it because of the entire Note Fiesta that they had
15:54
at one point, where phones were blowing up. So they're basically like one of the last companies that are
16:01
using a 25 watt charging apart from maybe Apple. I guess they can't really afford their phones blowing up again
16:12
So even though it's using a 25 watt charger, it still can charge the device to 100% in 115 minutes
16:21
Now this doesn't seem really that impressive. It's close to two hours
16:26
But as a comparison, last device that I did a review of
16:30
was the Huawei P40 light 5G and that device had a 4,000 million power battery, 40 watt charger
16:40
and well it could charge a device in a single hour to fall right but let's consider the fact that
16:50
this is close to twice as much battery and it is charging it basically as fast as the 40 watt
16:57
charger so that actually came as a surprise to me in terms of
17:00
of just like this year, just the specs of it. So even though it's a fairly crap charger in my opinion
17:08
could have been way faster, and the device should or could charge in a significantly short amount of time
17:15
by all means, for the size of this battery, it is charging it really quickly, which was surprising to me
17:21
And then apart from that, we can go to the kind of like the minor details of the device
17:26
so it comes with an NFC, obviously, like almost every device. GPS, gyroscope, all that stuff
17:33
Also has a fingerprint. Unfortunately, I'm not said to say that the fingerprint sensor is not under display
17:40
It's a side key right here. So it basically functions as a fingerprint along with the power key
17:48
Or side key, as they call it here. So that's a little bit of a shame
17:53
I really like to have it under display, personal preference, honestly. But I assume this will work just as well
17:59
just a different position and kind of like what I'm used to
18:06
And last thing that I'll mention, the device comes in two different colors. So we have the Celestial Black, which is the one that I have
18:12
Although on the box is just written black. Now let me quickly wipe it off all the fingerprints because it is a magnet for it
18:22
Yeah, fairly good enough. I'm not sure if you can see it, but this isn't necessarily looking like black
18:29
It's looking like a super deep blue even though if I grab the ERST box not this part
18:40
there we go so right here you can see the diversion is the black 128 so it's
18:50
supposed to be black so celestial black here as in direct sunlight probably it going to be not really looking like a black color It has like this metallic color to it even though the phone and the back of the case is plastic and the frame as well
19:09
And also there's another color called electric blue. I don't really have it
19:14
Can't really show you how it looks like. But hey, I assume it's going to be blue
19:19
So, yeah. And apart from that, we can also look at the device from all around
19:25
So, like we already seen, we have the double power key slash fingerprint sensor
19:32
Then we have the volume markers above that. On the top, we only have the microphone
19:37
Then we have on the other side a tray. Now, this is the SIMs slash also the SD
19:47
I believe we have two different SIM slots right here. And a dedicated SD slot
19:52
so you won't have to pick and choose if you want to have two SIM cards or one SIM and one SD
19:59
And then on the bottom of the device, we have that headphone jack, the Type C port, microphone
20:06
along with the speaker grill. So, yeah, that will basically finish up the overview of the device
20:13
Now, the last thing that I will say is the price, which it comes around $350 around
20:21
Now the price might be a little bit different considering the prices that I've seen were not really designed for US
20:27
This is more of a conversion But it should be somewhere on that maybe a little bit less
20:36
It's a kind of a hard pitch right here $350 you can get way better devices for that price
20:41
And I'm not sure if this device is particularly worth that much
20:49
Now at the end of the day it will probably depend on the user. If you're a long time Samsung fan or cherish yourself actually Google services
21:00
along with actual reliable company for updates and stuff like that, then paying a little bit
21:07
more for a device probably shouldn't be a big deal right here. You're kind of also paying for the
21:12
reputation of the company and obviously it's a Samsung so it does have it. Their
21:21
devices are most of the time really good, reliable, they work. The phone itself has support for it for a decent amount of time
21:30
And obviously it's Samsung, so things like the displays and stuff like that are, well
21:36
they're kind of like the specialty. Now, for me, it's lacking a couple things
21:46
Number one, a smaller price tag. And number two, a little bit
21:51
dirtier builds to it along with along with maybe what we got let's say I wouldn't say maybe
22:04
wireless charging oh I think the the key part for me would be the display now it is an
22:12
amazing display by all means but it's just a 60 Hertz now recently I've been
22:18
reviewing different phones for instance, well, primarily Chinese. So if you have a problem with, for instance, like the Chinese companies
22:28
then probably this phone is for you. But if you want to get a cheaper device with better specs
22:35
then probably going for some Chinese brands like Xiaomi, RealMe or stuff like that is a better option
22:44
Majority of the mid-range devices nowadays come with a at least 90 hertz display
22:49
And this, I'm sad to say, is not the... the case, here you get just a typical 60 Hz and that is one of the key things that I'm looking
22:56
for in the device at the moment. And yeah, if you're willing to drop the display quality in terms
23:05
of like the refresh rate and just not have that buttery smooth feel to it and have a respectable
23:11
device, again mind you a little bit higher price tag than majority of the other mid-range devices
23:17
then probably there isn't much choice for you here this is a no brain
23:23
I probably won't be thinking much about it the only other option with like reliable devices
23:33
probably would have the iPhones and that's about it from what I can think about
23:39
from the top of my head honestly the rest of this is just Chinese brands or
23:46
brands that were respective or reputable, but stop being like Huawei. So yeah
23:53
Now, at the end of the day, just to conclude this, it's a really good device
23:58
Works well, runs well. The cameras are really decent, honestly, for a mid-range device
24:04
They work flawlessly. The device is fast. It has plenty of RAM
24:09
It has a huge, and I cannot trust this now. This is an absolute unit of a battery in here
24:17
So that is, again, another positive of this device. It has basically everything that you'd expect from a device
24:25
And it just sacrifices from a flagship from like the additional features, like I would say
24:31
well, I guess I have to for Samsung include the faster refresh rate and the premium shelf
24:36
because Samsung kind of reserves that for just the premium devices. And several other things that, for instance, we might not be fun, like care about
24:45
for instance like the wireless charging. But apart from that, the device says everything that a normal user could need
24:52
and the fact that it runs smoothly and probably will last you several days
24:57
with the battery is good enough for me to recommend this device
25:02
if you're looking for specifically a Samsung phone or any kind of non-Chinese phone
25:09
