Welcome
0:07
Follow me is a Sony Xperia 5 Mark 2 and today we'll go over unboxing along with an overview of this phone
0:15
so without further to do let's pop it open and go nothing in the box
0:25
now all straight off mention I already went to the setup of the device
0:29
that's why there is like a foil for it is on here and that's why it's also going to be set up
0:36
So there's the phone. Then we got some paperwork, let's be honest, no one really cares about that one
0:45
Looks like there's no SIM inject tool. Oh well. Then cardboard and inside we have the 18 watt charger
0:58
18 watt charger, so nothing really special right here. And apart from that also a cable
1:08
So right here, and like I said, I don't really see a SIM ejectal, so that's kind of weird
1:13
And the cable itself looks to be type C to type C
1:18
Yeah, so both of them are type C. And it's actually written right here that is 18 watts as well, so that's nice
1:24
Now, right of the bottom I'm going to mention that that Charter that is included seems to be a little bit garbage 18 watts for 2020 release
1:33
I wouldn't really call acceptable But that's just me And outside of that the phone itself supports a 21 watts charging
1:44
Unfortunately they don't give you a charger for that one So yeah
1:49
Popping it out and we get the phone itself so So let's turn it on hopefully
1:57
Hopefully it's not dead. So while it's turning on, I'm going to start off mentioning the specs
2:07
So we have a 6.1 inch display. It is a fairly small display, honestly
2:12
There is phones with, well, right now most of them go over 6.5 inches
2:21
So this one is on the smaller side. And personally, I really like it
2:26
I like to see smaller devices. Not everything needs to be as big as possible
2:31
We don't all live in US. Bigger is not always better. So this is a really nice touch that the phone itself
2:39
it is a bit more compact. And because it is more compact
2:45
there is certain additional things that we actually get because of it
2:49
So things like pixels per inch. In normal circumstances, they are around like starting to be outfessional
2:56
400 pixels per inch. This one is like 449 pixels per inch because it's posting a full
3:03
HD resolution which is 1080p by 2520 but because it's a only 6.1 inch display it packs them
3:11
a little bit denser making the pixels per inch be higher than almost every other device in 2020
3:19
that I have unboxed unless the device you uses a 4k or like 2K resolution then that doesn't
3:24
compare but this is not it and the resolution in here or the shortness of
3:31
display will be better than what you're used on every other device basically
3:36
let's max out the brightness and obviously I can clearly see right of the bat
3:41
the display is fairly bright looks gorgeous it is a all-lit display and they also
3:47
have some kind of their own patented technology in here so they have the
3:52
X-Reality engine and also a triluminous display. A trilomines display, I believe if I understood it correctly, because I needed to look it up
4:04
It's just a way of differently lighting up the RGB pixels, which by all tons of purposes, it might be slightly better, but if I understand correctly, it's just a different way of lighting up the pixel
4:17
and yeah and the X reality engine was I believe just a way of dealing with colors itself
4:28
so because of that it is Sony so they do focus a lot in terms of color reproduction to be
4:35
as accurate as they can and even in the settings you have settings just for that so if we
4:41
go into the display let's go to display sections I believe there we go in
4:47
quality settings they have here creator mode which will basically represent the most accurate
4:53
colors that well any phone i guess can display they do have coverage of srgb and stuff like that so it will be fairly accurate colors colors as creators have intended it so whatever you will be watching it is going to be as accurate to what
5:11
they envisioned as it can be so it is really nice as you can see by dropping it to
5:17
the creator everything looks a little bit more washed out it might not look as
5:22
as vibrant as it did before but this is more accurate colors than
5:29
than what was before. And just as a comparison, I'm going to go back
5:33
drop it to standard, and you can see it is slightly bit more vibrant
5:38
But at the end of the day, honestly, it is a matter of personal preference
5:44
If you prefer it to be a little bit more saturated, go for it. And if you prefer it to be more accurate
5:49
then by all means, you can pick that as well. There is not really any wrong answer here
5:53
in terms of the colors. And if you're not really creating content which probably you shouldn't be doing that on your phone anyway then this is more
6:03
of a just a taste kind of what you prefer to use now moving further to display it has an 80% or 80.9
6:16
screen to body ratio so it isn't the it doesn't have the smallest bezel as you can see there
6:23
is some the bottom and the top right here probably would look better with a
6:28
completely white background so let's open up something like a chrome there we go now the top one is a little bit smaller
6:34
But it is completely blocked out to accommodate things like the time notifications and the battery
6:41
So in normal circumstances it will be a little bit shorter as you can see
6:47
But honestly the display looks really nice the bezels aren't too intrusive and overall design of the display itself and the phone is really nice
6:55
The phone is fairly slim as a can see it has this some people say I more of a remote control shape because it
7:05
has a 21 point or 21 by 9 aspect ratio which you're not sure what that means
7:10
it is basically the same aspect ratio as a movie and a cinema so as you always
7:16
notice when you open up a movie on your on your TV you always have these black
7:21
bars on top and the bottom opening up the same movie on here will remove those
7:25
black bars all together and the movie will be full screen. So that is
7:32
really nice. I personally like the 21 by 9 aspect ratio, and I don't mind the
7:36
device being slimmer. It looks, in my opinion, a little bit more modern
7:41
And overall, the aesthetics of this device are really nice. So you have a
7:44
aluminum frame, which is a little bit rounded, as you can clearly see
7:50
It does actually have a headphone jack. If you can believe that or not. If I can actually get
7:54
it in the light. There we go. So you can see this thing
7:58
right here that's a headphone jack. So yeah, also the display itself has a tiny bit of a curve to it
8:07
just the glass itself, not the actual display. If I move it to the side, can see that it is just like rounded up, I would say
8:15
That's how we would call it. But the display itself is flat. But because it is rounded, it does feel really nice to swipe from the side of it
8:22
So if you want to use gesture navigation, by all means you can, and it will feel better than, in my opinion, it doesn't like
8:28
super flat displays. Now moving further the glass itself on here for the display is a Gorilla Glass 6
8:36
as well as the back one is also Gorilla Glass 6 so
8:41
fairly nice and like I said before the frame of the device is aluminium so the device
8:46
itself will be fairly durable. Now moving on to the back of the device we have
8:52
triple camera setup and I'm happy to say there is no useless cameras here
8:58
So we have triple camera setup with all being 12 megapixel. So we have 12 megapixel wide, 12 megapixel telephoto, and 12 megapixel ultra wide
9:08
And when it comes down to shooting with this, outside of being able to use the typical normal camera app that comes with every Android
9:17
we also have the Cinema Pro or whatever it's called. Yep, Cinema Pro, which will push these cameras to basically its limits
9:28
So it is a fairly, let's see, unintuitive software if you have never used it before
9:36
It does kind of require a little bit of learning. It's not really automatic
9:43
So as you can see, you have things like the resolution, so you can pick the resolution of your video
9:47
the frame rate of it, so you can select which frame rate you want, along with lenses or filters in this case
9:55
Then we have frame rate, which I already selected. looks like I can also go for 120 that interesting then we have the lens now the lens can be changed if I believe I drop it lower
10:13
Yeah, there we go. Just can see now we can change the lens
10:17
So this is the 70 millimeters and I have 24 and 16
10:25
So this is the ultra wide. I believe this is the normal and this is the telephoto
10:32
So you can choose whichever one you want. And also apart from that, you have things like what I find really interesting is their focus
10:42
So you have like, as you can see right now, the A and B focus. And if you actually select these to be different, so you can move this dial right here, this button
10:53
And let's just try to get this right here. So if you move it, you will have focus at one point
11:00
so there we go, that's focus, and then we'll move it further
11:05
it's going to focus on something else. And from there, once you top on okay
11:09
I can basically switch it from A to B by pressing the button
11:14
automatically drop it. You can also select the time that it takes
11:19
for it to go from one focus to another, so you can have this really nice cinematic focuses
11:23
that are always, well, focused on whatever you want. So let's go back and go back
11:36
So this is just strictly for recording videos, but you also have a application for taking photos as well
11:44
And like you've seen, you can record at 4K, 24, 30, 60, 120, along with 1080p
11:52
you can obviously do the same thing with the same kind of resolutions
11:56
or not resolutions, but frame rates. which I really like that the device actually has a
12:01
60 and also 120 for the 4K that is just top notch
12:05
now moving on to the front one we only have a single one right here if I can get it
12:11
kind of hard to see I'm really sure how to get it
12:17
but there is a single lens there next to the speaker and that is just a
12:22
8 megapixel lens that can shoot at 1080p 30 frames so you won't be getting any kind of over
12:27
kill at the front here. And when it comes down, the camera setup here is, well, top notch
12:35
It's one of the better ones. Obviously, it's made by Sony, so they primarily focus on lenses and displays
12:42
And they exceed at doing so. So, yeah. And there's also no other device like this that will have such a control for your camera
12:49
apps as you have these apps right here. So this is primarily the only device that gives you such a tool
12:57
for actually capturing video at an almost cinematic grade. And moving on just to the overall specifications of this device
13:09
which are probably the weakest part of the device itself. It's a little bit of a shame
13:14
As the Snapdragon 865, so not the highest Snapdragon at the moment
13:21
So you're a little bit behind with the device here. Also, the memory, you have two very..
13:27
128 and 256 gigs with 8 gigabytes of RAM that can actually be extended via
13:34
SD card so you can have more than 250 if you need it which is really nice but the
13:39
shame here is the fact that it comes with only UFS storage so I didn't actually
13:44
see any kind of like UFS 3.0 on it so the transfer speeds or even read and
13:49
writes of like 4k footage might be a little bit slow and you might actually
13:53
see the device chugging a little bit when it comes down to reading and
13:57
writing these kind of larger files. And moving on to the next one, it's going to be the battery, which is a 4,000
14:07
milli-hour battery. Again, not the biggest, but because this device is fairly small, I'm willing to accept it
14:14
In this case, it is fairly okay. But the charger here is also a little bit of a downer, I would say
14:23
The 18 watt is a little bit too small, in my opinion, especially that the device
14:27
supports 21 watt charging they should have included the 20 watt or 21 watt
14:34
charger instead of a 18 one they advertise also that at 21 watts you can charge
14:39
the device to 50% at in 30 minutes which is most certainly not the case with the 181
14:45
watt because it's a smaller charger it's gonna charge a little bit slower which also why would you advertise something if the device doesn't come
14:53
with it it's it makes not really any sense here. So just a little bit of a shame here. Now also another thing that I miss is
15:04
under display fingerprint sensor They have it on the power key as they did almost in every device that I have reviewed from them And I would really like to see them move to Under Display
15:18
Try to improve that. In my opinion, I just prefer it under display
15:22
That's just kind of how I feel I've been using my phone for a while and that's where it is for me
15:27
And majority of the other devices start to do it. Even the mid-range devices have it
15:31
So I'm not sure why I would assume a flagship device. it's kind of how it basically is priced so I will call this a flagship device
15:40
I don't understand why this device isn't coming with the under-display fingerprint sensor
15:48
and lastly it's going to be the price which comes at around 800 euros which
15:57
it is a little bit conflicting I would prefer to have better specifications of the device for that kind of price
16:05
maybe also a 5G model. This doesn't have 5G. So you're missing out on the newer connectivities
16:15
You're missing out on several different things like wireless charging, faster charging overallly
16:22
Under display, fingerprint sensor, maybe better selfie camera. And what you get is primarily what Sony focuses on
16:31
which is the top-notch camera quality, at least at the back. and also their display
16:38
This is the primary reason why you would go for it and also the aspect ratio which is unusual
16:45
Let's put it this way for a phone. But if you're not planning to capture videos with this device
16:53
then I would say you will be overpaying for it. It's going to feel a little bit overpriced
17:00
if you're not going to use the camera or the photo pro app
17:05
because even if you try to use their normal camera, it will lack in terms of features
17:11
So, as you all see, it's just a standard camera right here, as almost every Android has
17:18
So you have all the lenses that you normally do and the video and photo mode
17:22
And not much control past that. So, number one, if you want quick photos, you will probably stick with the photo app
17:31
if you need to snap a quick photograph of anything that is happening and time is of essence here
17:38
you most likely won't be launching the Pro apps right here because they will require you to manually set them up
17:44
And by the time you manually set them up, the time might have already passed
17:49
So there's one thing. And like I said, if you're not using those apps, this phone seems overpriced and maybe a little bit redundant to purchase
17:58
There is going to be better options that will offer more intermediate. of performance and features for the same price compared to this device
18:08
Personally, I really like this device. I can't say I don't. It has a nice shape. It feels
18:15
really nice in hand when you're holding it. The stock Android to it is also really nice
18:21
The apps that they include are fairly good, let's be honest, which meaning the camera, the
18:28
pro apps and also the multi-window split screen, which I'll allows you to quickly access to apps in split screen by just simply choosing them like so
18:37
It automatically launches both of them. I really like this. This is just one of the better implementations of split screen, and I don't really understand
18:47
why other manufacturers aren't doing this. Every phone has a split screen, but only Sony manages to actually utilize it into a full potential
18:56
with this kind of simple shortcut. That's basically all it is. and
19:03
I'm closed this, there we go and yeah like I said like if the phone is a little bit overpriced
19:10
and personally I wouldn't be buying it for myself but if you're really into Sony
19:15
this is an amazing device I cannot say it isn't and especially if you take photos
19:21
or videos for that matter this is the only phone you can get honestly
19:25
and it is hands down in terms of camera the best phone you can get
19:30
So that being said If you're a camera user Get this device or camera recorder
19:36
If you want to record Then yeah this is the phone for you If you're gonna barely use those apps
19:42
Or barely touch upon photos or videos Then I'll probably suggest you to pick
19:46
A different device because this one Will not bring anything extra to the table
19:52
And only include the features That probably you won't utilize in this case
19:57
And that being said If you found this video helpful, don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe
20:04
And thanks for watching
