Welcome
0:01
In front of me is a OnePlus 10 Pro and today I'll show you a couple tweaks and tricks that
0:13
I can do on this phone. Those won't be anything like super crazy so bear with me
0:18
Anyway, let's get started by going into the settings and actually I'm gonna start off
0:24
by turning this trash off. And there we go
0:33
I would actually consider this to be the first improvement that you can make to the phone
0:38
just because this thing is so annoying and I honestly personally had no use for it
0:42
Every time I try to pull down my notifications I would just pull that down
0:48
No bueno. Anyway, so let's open up our settings and from here we can navigate to personalization
0:56
Now this is something that I actually like on OnePlus just because they give you this
1:01
list of any kind of thing that you can personalize in a single location and that is in my opinion
1:09
really nice. So we have things like wallpaper, let's be honest no one cares about that one, always
1:14
on display, you can customize that if you use this. I don't like to use it just because it consumes more battery and I would rather have more
1:21
battery than screen that tells me the time. And then we have icon packs, so here we can change to a different icon pack, you can also
1:30
edit the ones that you have right now. So we can change the icon size, arts, show up names and so on
1:40
And if we go back we have some canvas which I actually have no idea what that is
1:46
So anyway, let's move over to next things which is quick settings
1:52
So here we can change how these icons, so these ones, look like
1:57
And we have couple options to choose from, circle, square, square, square, more rounder
2:01
square and mixture of square and circle. This is creativity at its finest here I guess
2:10
Anyway, below that we have colors which actually might be more useful to some people as a customer
2:16
customization option, so you can change it to something else. You also luckily have this option right here where you can change it yourself, actually
2:23
choose a specific color which I actually do really like. Some phones include this kind of customization but they just give you like a preset of couple
2:33
colors that you can choose from, so you will never find a color that you actually really want
2:38
Here, here we go, here is a wheel, you can go crazy with it, really nice
2:45
And below that we have also font and display size, so you can change the font, text size
2:50
and so on. If you want to utilize that, go right ahead
2:55
And last thing, not last thing but two last things, we have fingerprint animation, so
3:00
if you're using fingerprint, I can change that, if you're not, I don't think you can actually do anything here
3:05
But obviously if you're using a fingerprint sensor, you can change how it animates when
3:08
you press your finger to it. So we have a, actually a fairly decent choice right here, like amount of choices right here
3:16
so yeah, you can change it to something else, that might be fitting more to you, or you
3:20
can also just turn it off, so it will not animate when you're unlocking the device
3:27
And last thing is the horizon lighting, this is just like the, there we go, the lighting on the edges
3:32
The curve on this phone is so subtle that I don't think you're gonna see it, because initially this kind of design was made so when you're keeping your phone on the screen
3:41
the curve would kind of like shine on the table, though at this time this curve is so
3:47
subtle that you barely can see it. So there we go. Now there's one little bit of a hiccup right here that I would say, usually, or before
3:59
we actually had access to editing the status bar icons. I think it was in here, but I don't see it anymore
4:07
See if we can find it, this also was a great feature
4:17
So we do have a notification and status bar. And in here you have your, well, all the icons that are visible right here
4:26
Obviously this does not include your notifications, as you can see these ones, so clear them out
4:31
obviously some of them should disappear, but apparently nothing disappeared. There we go
4:39
So in here, as you can see, we have a bunch of them, like Bluetooth, HD voice, NFC, earphones
4:47
alarms, and so on. Now what this allows you to do is keep things enabled, for instance like Bluetooth
4:55
As you can see you do have icons right here, but what you can do is just get rid of them
4:59
The actual option is still running, but it's just not going to be showing up here
5:05
And it allows you to really clean out your status bar from a lot of clutter that you
5:10
would normally have. If you use things quite often, for instance like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi or anything other
5:18
like not disturb mode, whatever you can find here that you utilize, you can just get rid
5:22
of it. You most likely know that it's running on your phone, so you don't need to see it in
5:26
the status bar. And you can get this really nice clean look once you get rid of these notifications
5:33
I could basically minimize it to just battery and time. And that is really nice to actually have
5:40
I personally like a clean look, and this fits right here with it
5:45
Anyway, let's move over to the next thing that I wanted to talk about, which is the
5:49
home screen. And we do have a home screen and a lock screen settings right here, but I'm just going to
5:53
touch upon the home screen, which in here, it allows you to change the home screen mode
5:59
from drawer to standard if you want to change that. I personally prefer the drawer, so that's what I'm going to be sticking with, but standard
6:07
will keep all the apps on the home screen, and you won't have the app drawer, which just
6:12
makes a massive clutter. But then below that we have home screen layout, so here we can change how many apps are on
6:19
the home screen. If you want to fit more of them, have them more crammed if you want to, or less crammed
6:26
it's completely up to you. I personally prefer to have them a little bit more crammed, just because they will be
6:31
a little bit smaller, packed tighter, and therefore also look a little bit cleaner if
6:37
you can minimize the amount of them, which is what I kind of like to usually go for
6:42
So there we go. And as you can see, that is kind of the effect, though turning that off did move this, because
6:52
we have now a different kind of grid size, so we can just fix that up
6:57
Anyway, let's go to the next option, which is going to be the dark mode under the display
7:03
section right here. Now we do have the dark and light mode, which, I did say dark mode, but what I kind of mean
7:11
more is the auto-switch option that we have right here, which uses both of these modes
7:18
at given times. So as an example, it can switch to dark mode during the nighttime, and during the daytime
7:24
it can have it in light mode, which I personally would consider to be a better option than
7:28
just switching it permanently to light or dark. So as you can see, you can set it to sunset to sunrise, and there you go, you're good
7:37
to go. Now moving on further in the display section, we have a couple of additional things that
7:43
I want to show right here, which is, let's see where it was, natural tone display
7:49
And now this one, when I turned it on, it looks a little bit weird to me, a little bit too yellowish, but it apparently automatically adjusts color temperature according to the
7:58
ambient light, which is the one that I have right here. Maybe this is the correct one, maybe it looks better if I would just get out of the lit
8:06
up environment that I'm in. On the camera, it's not very visible, which is quite weird, but maybe like I said, this
8:14
is all to do with the lighting that I have right here. I have three different lights that are basically lighting up the display, or this set, which
8:24
basically one is absolutely warm light, and with that in mind it could be mixing up just
8:30
because it's like super warm with this, making it look a little bit weird
8:36
And hopefully, I presume the reason why the camera isn't picking it up is because I have
8:42
it set to be hard locked to a specific color temperature or true white tone that I have
8:51
set, so maybe that's the reason. Now personally, when you turn it on and off, at least when I do, it does have an effect
9:00
kind of as though you would turn on one of those night mode, reading mode or something
9:05
like that, where it makes the display massively yellow. Anyway, let's move on to the next one, which is the video color enhancer
9:14
There's also another, not color, but there's also a video sharpness enhancer, so you can
9:18
utilize all of them. Obviously, this one tries to, I guess, use standard resolution to high resolution technology
9:29
the resolution or whatever it is, but judging by the image, it's just basically making it
9:36
look a little bit brighter, giving it more high dynamic range, basically
9:42
As I could explain it, though it's kind of fake, it's not what you'd expect really to be
9:48
It's just, like I said, a little bit brighter image, probably a little bit more saturated
9:53
with turned down shadows, so they appear deeper. So if you want to utilize that, obviously enable it
10:00
If you don't care for it, just leave it. And with that in mind, we also have the image sharpener
10:05
There's the video right here, again, showing you the image difference between sharper and
10:10
not sharp. And obviously, this one will be a little bit sharper, though I'm not wearing my glasses
10:19
so it doesn't really look that much different to me, but it artificially sharpens the image
10:23
making it look a little bit more crisp. So if that is something that you want to utilize, obviously turn that on
10:31
And there we go, that's about it. And last thing that I'm going to touch upon is the screen refresh rate, which is right here
10:39
Now, luckily, the phone actually turns on about 120 Hz, and this is OnePlus, so I actually
10:47
assume, hope, that they are also utilizing the smart switch between 120 to 60, or hopefully
10:56
even lower. I'm going to quickly see if that is the case
10:59
And while I do so, I'm going to quickly just mention benefits, I guess, and downsides of this
11:07
So high refresh rate will consume more battery life, but it will result in you having just
11:14
a more smoother experience on the display. So it has its upsides and downsides
11:21
While 60 will be constantly just kind of choppy, and consume less battery life
11:27
So there we go. Now, I am looking for build version, but I don't know where it is
11:37
Versions, maybe? Oh, there we go. So now that it's enabled, I can navigate into the developer options and enable refresh rate
11:50
Actually, before I go there, I will just try to search for it. It might be a little bit quicker
11:59
There we go. Show refresh rate. Toggle that on. And yep. Damn, this phone actually goes really low
12:08
So to be completely honest, with this phone, the 120 Hz might actually be the better choice
12:14
if you, for instance, aren't really scrolling up and down constantly or just touching the display
12:21
Just because when you're not using it, it actually drops it to 5. I'm not sure why it kind of glitched for a moment to like 30
12:28
But yeah, as you can see, when you're scrolling, it automatically switches to 120, which you
12:32
can see right here. And when you stop scrolling, it automatically drops it to 5
12:37
That is lower than if you just decide to pick 60. Now, the lower the frame rate, the less power and energy the phone will need to consume
12:46
to actually do this. Thus it will actually right now, even though I have 120 Hz enabled, right now in this kind
12:54
of state where it's not doing anything, this screen will stay up, lit up, as in like in
13:00
terms of battery life. The battery life will last longer and significantly longer than what you would get when you would
13:05
actually turn on 60 only. One last thing that I'll just kind of go into is, let's go back into the display, the refresh rate
13:15
And just for the people and myself out of interest, I want to see if I select 60
13:21
60 also actually drops it back to 5. So it also has like the smart switch to 5 frames per second, which I guess what I said
13:31
was inaccurate. That's a shame. So yeah, I can utilize both of them and both of them should give you a decent battery life
13:41
Actually 60 here should give you better battery life than majority of the other phones
13:47
Five frames per second and like not doing anything like right now is the lowest frame
13:51
rate I have seen so far. Now the reason why this actually has such a good impact is, if you don't know what refresh
13:59
rate is, frame rate, just a kind of a easy explanation is imagine your screen, what you
14:07
see on a screen for instance when you scroll from for instance up to down
14:13
If you do this for a single second, so there we go, single second scroll at 60 frames
14:19
you will get obviously 60 frames that will just show this kind of like display this
14:25
You can kind of imagine this like these old school movie projectors where you have like
14:30
just pictures and you just spin them and that's kind of how the display works like
14:35
So obviously 5 frames would just show 5 different pictures per second
14:41
60 shows 60 and 120, 120 of them. The more frames you see when scrolling up and down, the smoother the image will look like
14:51
So obviously the lower you can get when you're not doing anything, the better for the battery
14:55
life because it doesn't need to stress the CPU to actually push that extra frame rate
15:00
So there we go, that's kind of the benefit of having a lower frame rate here
15:05
But anyway, that being said, this would conclude my fairly simple list of kind of different
15:10
tweaks and tricks you can do on this phone. And if you found this very helpful, don't forget to hit like, subscribe, and thanks
