Welcome. So in front of me is the brand new meta quest 3 and I'll go for unboxing
0:07
Though a little bit late but that's basically how long I had to wait for mine to arrive
0:14
In any case, let's just get straight into it. So you have a pull tub right here and one on the other side
0:23
And I can now just slide this little sleeve off. off. Come on. Oh for goodness thing, there we go. Here it is. Opening it up, the box is
0:41
very compact and this is the first time I'm actually seeing this, at least in person, so
0:47
get our two controllers without the ring. Pretty nice. And then tiny headset, it still has some heft to it
1:04
So it actually feels heavier than what I expected. Now in here we get a charger and a cable
1:13
There we go. Meta brand the charger and it is a type C charger
1:22
It's actually nice. And if I remember correctly this is, I don't need to remember, it's actually written
1:28
an 18 watt charger of the camera can actually catch this. Come on
1:35
There we go, it's barely visible, but it's like right here. So yeah, an 18 watt charger and one thing that bugs me is this cable
1:44
It is like what, one meter long. It can be used for a link connection with a computer for like wired PC gaming
1:55
And instead of giving you like 3 meter long cable just because maybe you want to charge your device and use it considering the
2:01
battery here is absolute dog shit they give you this puny little two one meter cable
2:06
and basically good riddance go f yourself i mean typical meta i guess anyway um so
2:15
they can look at the actual control uh not the device itself just get rid of this
2:21
we have some info all right we do have I guess I'm going to touch up on that
2:29
in a second once I get this off there we go there we go
2:37
there we go so
2:48
probably as you just noticed we have this god-awful strap and I refuse to accept it as a default so I already purchased a better one
3:01
which hopefully will arrive in the next like two weeks because it's from Ali-Express but whatever
3:07
I'm going to do that actually review it once it comes but sticking with the actual headset right
3:12
here we have nice pancake lenses and these will give you about give or take a hundred and like what
3:19
five degrees field of view, give or take, depending on how close you have, and if you have the
3:24
glasses on, because if you do, you will be extending this. As you can see, there's the button
3:31
and you press this just to kind of showcase this So you you know what I gonna get rid of this It garbage anyway so actually it like right off You can go to trash That where your place is anyway So here we have the two buttons on either side You just press them and then pull it out a little bit Come on
4:06
It doesn't really want to... it's not the most robust design. So we can see we have like a slide right here
4:14
So this should basically press and... So this retracted, this doesn't want to move at all
4:20
Great. There we go. It's just not the most smooth movement. It's a little bit rough
4:27
Fatrial interface very little in terms of cushioning, I would say. It's still there, but like this is maxed out
4:36
Personally, I tried the Quest 2. It wasn't necessarily the most comfortable for my face
4:42
And this one basically has the same design. Literally very similar in almost every aspect in terms of the weight
4:50
Actually, it's heavier than the Quest 1. Or 2, I mean. The facial interface looks about the same, just a little bit changes
4:57
A strap still complete dog shit. So obviously you will basically be forced to buy a different strap
5:04
So we can use this comfortably, which is a bit of a shame considering this would have been a great headset
5:11
if it actually came with a decent strap for the $5,000 that it costs for 128 gigabytes
5:19
So that being said, let's talk about the specs, and then I'll talk about something that actually bugs me about meta and their pricing
5:27
So spec-wise, we're looking at pink lenses, like I mentioned, with about 110, 5 to 10 degrees
5:34
field of view depending on if you're using glasses or whatever. And we have a resolution right here of 2064 by 22.08 pixels per eye
5:46
So this is basically 2K resolution per eye. And it is running at a maximum of 120 hertz refresh rate
5:55
You do have the option now to actually enable power saving mode
5:59
which will cap the refresh rate to 72, which is a little bit of a wonky thing
6:02
but obviously this headset consumes battery like no other, so you might actually be utilizing that more often than you would expect
6:15
And in terms of the controllers and the ringless, so it's using now rings around here, the controller itself like this black edges right here
6:25
and it's also using hand tracking in combination to give you a better tracking in general
6:32
but still, if you turn off hand tracking, these won't be tracked as well from what I've heard
6:39
Now, talking about some other things like the cameras right here, we don't have any more cameras at the top or at the top side
6:47
So controllers will kind of be losing a little bit of tracking when you have your hands above you
6:52
but I decided that that's not needed because not very many people keep their hands for extended period of time above their head
6:59
So it's more important to track it below. So we have one camera right here and here
7:05
And then we have a couple more over here, along with the lighter for the depth scanning
7:12
And this allows for this basically units like pass so it can actually anchor things correctly knows the depths of items or environment more like So yeah it gives you a pretty decent experience
7:30
From what I've seen, I haven't tested it out, like I said. Now, another thing here is we have
7:35
again, an IPD adjustment, a granular one, so you can just kind of keep on sliding it and we'll be
7:39
just moving. Now, the funny thing is, people are kind of gushing over this, but logically thinking
7:46
here, this is absolutely useless. Because the pancake lenses in here are clear, no matter where you're looking
7:52
for, true, so you don't have a sweet spot here anymore. The entire lens is a sweet spot
7:56
Therefore, having this adjustable is just kind of like, here you go
8:02
from meta, like, you get it, cool, you want it, you have it, even though now it's useless
8:08
Where it mattered was Quest 2, where you had the like two step or
8:11
three step one, and you had fernal lenses there. So you needed a sweet spot there, like the inner middle
8:19
Otherwise, you would have a blurry image. Here, that doesn't really matter, so this kind of becomes a little bit useless
8:26
And no one really is talking about it. Okay, so there we go. Now, one thing that I'll mention is I'll be dropping a link in the description
8:33
for people that might be buying this in the future, which you can utilize to basically activate your headset through
8:41
and it will hook you up with a $30.00. basically gift card for Metastore
8:48
So I highly recommend when you're setting up your device for the first time utilizing that, you basically click on it and set up the device
8:54
and you get $30 bucks free for you to use. And that being said, most of the titles from Metastore actually cost $30
9:03
Or $2,999. So it's not one of those where you basically get a gift card and you need to add more
9:09
to actually purchase something. So I highly recommend utilizing that. So, yeah
9:16
There we go. Now, like I mentioned before, I'll be doing once
9:19
arrives the review of a strap and it is a very cheap
9:24
Like, I mean, absolutely dirt cheap. I paid five euros for a basically an elite strap, just not from meta
9:31
Now, I will be honest, this was some kind of like a sale deal even on Ali Express
9:36
And if I want to buy another one, it would cost me a little bit more like 20 euros or something like that
9:43
It's still dirt cheap compared to what meta is offering. and what price is, so now let's talk about the big elephant in the room
9:49
Let me just grab my backpack drop somewhere, there we go. Just so I can bring something up that I've literally purchased
9:59
And luckily, it arrived along with my headset. So, here we go
10:05
Some cheap little plastic battery covers, which I actually didn't talk about
10:10
These battery covers now don't actually come off. When you press them, you have to actually press the button
10:15
to release it. So here we have a cheap little covers that are instead of these ones and
10:22
meta offers very similar product or exactly the same product. And let's open that up
10:33
Try to get this open. Oh boy, come on
10:45
There we go. So these are a little bit textured, as you can probably see, so not necessarily the best
10:52
And a little bit poor quality but these were like 10 euros 15 euros compared to the meta offering for 60 or 50 Yeah it 50 So meta wants 50 bucks for basically a very similar product like this one Now this might not be the best like execution because it kind of goes like this
11:14
I believe Metas is a little bit more premium where the strap actually is part of the plastic
11:22
So it's not like you can take it off, but this one, for the price that I get to pay
11:27
it still does the exact same job, it still locks in place, and it still substitutes the default battery cover
11:33
and should still get it in there correctly. No, not correctly
11:47
So I'm trying to get it. So it actually sits in here
11:53
There we go. There we go
12:05
So it looks something like this. Now obviously you need to also put one of these in there and loop it around
12:12
So it goes through here. I don't really, I'm not really going to do this, but obviously you can see it functions the
12:17
exact same way as the default meta strap. So yeah, I'd recommend picking something up from probably AliExpress, which will be significantly
12:26
cheaper than what meta wants for their product. That being said, everything that they offer is absolutely egregiously overpriced
12:34
They want for facial interface, which is the same dog shit one, this one
12:39
They want, I believe it was 60 bucks. It comes in different colors
12:45
Now, they don't have very many. They have either the orange or the bluish one
12:49
And basically you get these two things. And that will cost you, like I said, about 60 euros
12:55
fantastic pricing for a couple pieces of plastic and a rubber strap great
13:01
same thing goes for one of these this will run you like 50 bucks
13:06
the head strap without the battery pack runs like I think it's 60 euros as well
13:13
and then the one with the strap is over a hundred so yeah the prices there are just
13:17
absolutely bunkers I recommend just picking up somewhere else the their like exclusivity tax is just
13:25
is absolutely ridiculous. So no plastic like this should be worth 4999. So yeah. Anyway
13:35
at the end of the day, I do want to go back to the headset. It is a great headset. So
13:42
I'll be putting it through testing quite significantly over the weekend right now. And yeah
13:49
I'm hoping that it's going to be all great. Oh, and one more thing that I will mention for people
13:55
that might be purchasing this or have already. When you purchase it, do check for dead pixels
14:01
Apparently, I've already seen a bunch of videos where people complain that their headset had dead pixels
14:05
That is the first thing that I'm going to check after the setup. So just open up some kind of white background
14:10
something that's fully white, and then see if you have anything black on there
14:15
just dead not lighting up. And if you do, just return the headset
14:20
That's why I recommend checking that out right away. So you have the opportunity to still return
14:25
if something is wrong because once you see it you cannot see it anyway if you
